Timeline Assignment

For our Sept. 29 class meeting, we will be building a collaborative timeline depicting the collapse of socialist governments in Eastern Europe in 1989 to 1991.  Each student will be responsible for building a timeline for one country, as assigned in class on Sept. 22.  In order to complete your timeline, first determine the date or range of dates when the socialist government ended in your country.  You should then add materials to the timeline located on xtimeline.com (you will need to create an account on xtimeline.  Then simply log-in and click “add event”). You should have received an e-mail inviting you to be an editor.

Your timeline should include the following:

1.  4-6 of the most important dates for you country, with a brief description of what happened based on information from a primary source (e.g. a newspaper article).  Include a link to the article in your description.

2. 2-4 Photos or other visual materials from date range covered by your timeline (if possible, use the “embed media” option on the add event page).

3. 1-2 Videos from the date range covered by your timeline (if possible, use the “embed media” option on the add event page).

This assignment replaces the blog posts and comments for Week 6.  Your timeline entries are due at 9 pm on Sept. 28. If you have questions about the assignment, please bring them to class on Sept. 27.

Update: Our completed timeline is located here.

Thanks to Brian Croxall and Jason Jones for this assignment idea.
